The standard Power1401 may be expanded in capability by fitting a range of modular top boxes.Β These expansion boxes make internal connections to the Power1401 motherboard. They require the Power1401 expanded mechanics (can and case) and are unsuitable for end-user installation.

Similar to the ADC16 (4001-3), theΒ PGA16 (2701-4), has individually programmable gain on each channel, in steps of Γ1, Γ2, Γ5 and Γ10, for 16 waveform inputs in the range from Γ1 to Γ1000.
